Roatan Weather Forecast for Saturday, Oct. 02, 2010

For Saturday, Oct. 02, 2010

Today, cloudy with occasionally sunny skies. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are still possible. Winds will be NW to N, ranging in strength from 5 to 15 mph. Waves will be 1 to 4 feet. Winds and seas may diminish later today.
The surface trough mentioned in previous forecasts has passed over us. But, it continues to dominate our weather and we remain in the outer edge of its backside. Early this morning, it was centered about 480 miles east of Roatan. It will continue to drift SE through Saturday. By early Sunday, it will reach from eastern Cuba to western Panama. It is forecast to turn stationary and remain there through Wednesday.

Else where in the tropics

The large area of disturbed weather in the Atlantic Ocean, 97L continues to move westward to west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph. There now is a 20% chance that it will become a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours. This system poses no immediate threat to us.

All interests in the Bay Islands should continue to monitor these systems closely.
Remember that historically, some of the strongest, most damaging hurricanes in the Bay Islands and on the North Coast of Honduras have occurred during the months of October and November.

The air temperatures will be in the mid to high 80s (F) or 27 - 29 (C).

Ocean water temperatures are about 85F to 87F or 29C to 30C.
