Roatan Weather Forecast for Monday, Oct. 04, 2010

In my rush this morning, I forgot to post today's weather forecast.
I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused anyone.
Better later than never.
The USA National Weather Service earlier today predicted a
cold front for us. In this afternoon's forecast, they refer to it as
a surface trough. I guess that is the latest terminology for cold
front.

For Monday, Oct. 04, 2010
Today, expect partly sunny skies with cloudiness.
Again, there is a good chance for rain showers as we
remain in a frontal boundary area.

Winds will be from the north and variable, ranging
in strength from 5 to 15 mph. Waves will be 1 to
4 feet in height.
A cold front is predicted to move into the NW Caribbean
Sea tonight. A strong northerly wind surge will follow
in the wake of the front.
See Fig 1 below.
Else where in the tropics
There are two areas of disturbed weather in the Atlantic Ocean.
Both continue to move W to WNW at 10 to 15 mph.

There is a low chance, 20% or less, that they will become
tropical cyclones in the next 48 hours.
I have been keeping an eye on 97L, the system nearest us.
(See Fig 2) It has been traveling steadily east and today
was located at 17.7 N x 65.8 W. It is 1200 miles east of us,
but the center is only 60 miles to the north. The computer
models all predict it is going to turn away to the NE and
go out into the Atlantic Ocean.
These systems do not pose an immediate threat to us.
However, all interests in the Bay Islands should monitor
their progress, as they move into waters more favorable
for development. See Fig 2 below.

The air temperatures will be in the 70s to mid 80s (F) or 24 - 27 (C).

Ocean water temperatures are about 85F to 87F or 29C to 30C.
