The Tropical Weather Outlook
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:1. Gulf of Mexico - An E to W ridge will meander along the N Gulf coast through Thu...then shift southward and extend from central FL to the TX/LA border Fri through the weekend. A coastal trough will develop this afternoon across the W Gulf waters. A thermal trough will develop over the Yucatan Peninsula during the afternoons...then move NW across the S central Gulf waters during the overnight hours...and dissipate during the early daylight hours.
2. Caribbean Sea - A tropical wave along 75W will continue W through the central Caribbean today and the W Caribbean tonight and Wed. A tropical wave along 57W will cross the Windwards tonight and the E Caribbean Wed. Fresh to strong NE to E trades will continue across the central Caribbean through the week...increasing to near gale force along the NW coast of Colombia and over the Gulf of Venezuela during overnight hours through Wed night.
3. Satellite images indicate that the large area of cloudiness and thunderstorms associated with a tropical wave centered about 500 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands is gradually becoming better organized. Conditions appear to be favorable for a tropical depression to form during the next couple of days while the system moves toward the west-northwest and then northwest toward the open waters of the central Atlantic.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...high...70 percent
* Formation chance through 5 days...high...80 percent
All interests in the Bay Islands and on the North Coast of Honduras should monitor this system closely as it tracks westward toward us.
Currently this system does not pose a threat to the Bay Islands and north coast of Honduras. But all interests here should monitor this system as it moves west towards us.

4. Tropical Waves...
4a. A tropical wave is over the central tropical Atlantic with axis from 20N57W to 08N57N moving west at around 20 kt during the past 24 hours. The wave is in a moist environment as depicted by the SSMI Total Precipitable Water Imagery. However, dry air with Saharan dust is wrapping around the west side of the wave inhibiting significant convection at this time. The wave has a classic V-structure noticed on satellite imagery.
4b. A tropical wave is over the central Caribbean with axis that extends from 17N75W to 11N75W, moving west at about 20 kt during the past 24 hours. A low amplitude bulge of moisture extends from the southern portion of the wave to about 16N as noted on the TPW imagery. This moisture is forecast to remain south of 20N as the wave continues west through the central Caribbean through the day.
