3pm Weather Update for Mon., Sept 27, 2010

The NHC is now giving the low pressure area over the Western Caribbean a 40% chance of developing into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours. It is now designated 96L and at noon today was centered at 18.4 N x 88.0W. This is about 185 miles NW of us. Currently, this system, if it does develop is forecast to move northward.
In the meantime, a cold front is moving across the Gulf of Mexico and is forecast to reach the Yucatan Peninsula early Tuesday. If this front is strong enough to push further south, we should see rain and northerly winds later on Tuesday. The cold front's  current and forecast positions, are shown in Figs.1 & 2.
All interests in the Bay Islands should continue to monitor these systems closely.
