The Tropical Weather Outlook
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
1. There are no tropical cyclones in the Atlantic at this time. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th.
2. Gulf of Mexico - A ridge will dominate the Gulf waters through much of the forecast period supporting mainly moderate to fresh E to SE winds. Fresh to locally strong E to SE winds are expected at night off the Yucatan Peninsula due to local effects. A cold front will move across the Gulf waters Wed night into Thu and dissipate over the NE waters by Fri. A stronger cold front is forecast to sweep across the Gulf during the upcoming weekend bringing a significant increase in winds and seas.
3. Caribbean Sea - High pressure N of area will support fresh to strong winds across much of the basin...including the Atlantic passages... through Wed. Winds will reach near gale force near the coast of Colombia at night through Wed night. High pressure N of area will then weaken later this week allowing for trades to decrease across the basin beginning on Thu.
3a. Overall tranquil conditions persist across the Caribbean basin this morning as water vapor imagery indicates broad middle to upper level troughing and dry air aloft. Latest scatterometer data depicts generally moderate to fresh trades across the basin with slightly stronger winds occurring within close proximity to the coast of Colombia between 72W-77W. Satellite imagery shows isolated trade wind showers across the eastern portion of the basin while widely scattered showers are across Honduras and Nicaragua...including the adjacent coastal waters from 10N-19N between 82W-89W. Similar weather conditions are forecast through Friday as surface ridging remains anchored across the SW North Atlantic region.
