The Tropical Weather Outlook
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
1. Tropical cyclone formation Showers and thunderstorms over the extreme SW Caribbean Sea are associated with a broad area of low pressure. Environmental conditions are marginally conducive for development, and a tropical depression could form during the next few days while the low moves slowly and erratically.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...50 percent
* Formation chance through 5 days...high...70 percent
2. Gulf of Mexico - A strong cold front across the basin from central Florida to Bay of Campeche, Mexico will exit the Gulf tonight. Fresh to strong NE winds and building seas are expected behind the front today. Gales are expected S of 21N W of 95W within 90 NM of the Mexican coast this morning.
3. Caribbean Sea - A stationary front from Mona Passage to Nicaragua will dissipate later today. A cold front moving into the NW Caribbean tonight will bring fresh to strong NE winds over a large area from the Windward Passage to Costa Rica through Tue. An area of low pressure in the SW Caribbean...expected to remain nearly stationary...may develop into a tropical cyclone by Wed. All interests in the Bay Islands and on the North Coast of Honduras should monitor this system closely as it tracks westward toward us. Currently this system does not pose a threat to the Bay Islands and north coast of Honduras.
