The Tropical Weather Outlook
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
1. A large area of disorganized cloudiness and showers over the southwestern Caribbean Sea is associated with a broad low pressure system. Environmental conditions are expected to be conducive for slow development of this disturbance during the next several days, and a tropical depression is likely to form late this week or over the weekend while the low moves little.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...30 percent
* Formation chance through 5 days...high...80 percent
All interests in the Bay Islands and on the North Coast of Honduras should monitor this system closely as it tracks westward toward us. Currently this system does not pose a threat to the Bay Islands and north coast of Honduras. But all interests here should monitor this system as it moves west towards us.2. Gulf of Mexico - High pressure over the NW Gulf will shift to the eastern U.S. tonight. E-SE return flow will develop tonight and dominate the basin through Fri. A strong cold front will move into the far NW Gulf late Fri night and reach from S FL to the SW Gulf by Sun morning. A gale is possible over W portions of the SW Gulf Sat and Sun.
3. Caribbean Sea - A cold front over the NW Caribbean today will stall from near the Windward Passage to Honduras/Nicaragua border Thu evening. High pressure building in behind the front will support fresh to strong winds NW of the front tonight through Sun night. Broad low pressure will meander over the SW Caribbean through the end of the week.
3a. A remnant cold front extends from the west Atlantic across Cuba near 23N81W along 20N86W to over the Yucatan peninsula to 17N92W. Scattered to numerous showers and possible isolated thunderstorms are northwest of a line from Cuba near 22N81W to the Yucatan near 18N88W. An elongated east/west upper ridge remains anchored near 16N70W and extends into the west Atlantic. At the surface is a surface trough that extends from 14N73W through a 1007 mb low near 12N79W then west to over Central America near the Costa Rica/Nicaragua border. Clusters of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are south of 18N between 76W-83W and from 18N across Cuba and through the Windward Passage between 74W-78W. The upper ridge is providing difflunce aloft to enhance the showers and thunderstorms associated with this system. A surface trough is over east Caribbean extending from 17N62W to the coast of Venezuela near 11N63W with isolated showers and thunderstorms south of 17N east of 65W to the Lesser Antilles. The cold front will stall from the Windward Passage to Honduras/Nicaragua border Thursday evening then persist through the end of the week. The east Caribbean surface trough will continue to track west into the south-central Caribbean through Friday. The broad area of low pressure will meander over the southwest Caribbean through the end of the week.
