The Tropical Weather Outlook
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
1. There are no tropical cyclones in the Atlantic at this time. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th.
2. Gulf of Mexico - A strong cold front extending from the Florida Big Bend to near 18N94W will sweep SE of the Gulf through late today...followed by strong northerly winds reaching near gale force off Veracruz, Mexico this morning. Winds diminish and seas subside Thu night into Fri as high pressure builds across the basin. Southerly return flow will increase across the NW Gulf Sat night into Sun ahead of developing low pressure across the Central Plains...becoming fresh to strong E winds across the Gulf as the front nears the Texas coast by late Mon.
3. Caribbean Sea - High pressure SE of Bermuda will maintain moderate to fresh trades across the Caribbean...except for strong winds across south-central portions and near gale force at night along the coast of Colombia and NW Venezuela. Northerly swell will propagate through the waters NE and E of the Lesser Antilles overnight through tonight. A weakening cold front will move across the NW Caribbean tonight into Fri...then dissipate from the Windward Passage to the Gulf of Honduras Sat. Moderate to fresh trades will prevail Sat through Mon night.
3a. 15-30 kt trade winds are over the Caribbean Sea with the weakest winds over the Leeward Islands, and the strongest winds along the coast of Colombia. A surface trough is over the Yucatan Peninsula from 23N89W to 16N91W. Scattered moderate convection is within 60 nm of the trough. Scattered showers are over N Colombia, and Panama. Mostly fair weather is over the Caribbean Sea. In the upper levels, an upper level ridge is over the Caribbean with axis along 75W. Strong subsidence is over most of the Caribbean Sea. Expect more convection to be over the Yucatan Peninsula due to prefrontal activity. Also expect scattered showers to advect over Hispaniola and Cuba over the next 24 hours.
