The Tropical Weather Outlook
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:1. There are no tropical cyclones in the Atlantic at this time. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th.
2. Gulf of Mexico - Strong to gale force winds and building seas will follow a cold front moving across the Gulf today and Friday. High pressure in the wake of the front will shift eastward across the southeastern United States through Sat night. This will allow fresh to strong southerly flow to develop in the NW and N central Gulf Sat and Sun...ahead of a weak front expected to move off the Texas coast late Mon.
3. Caribbean Sea - Strong trade winds off Colombia diminish through late Fri as high pressure N of the area shifts E ahead of an approaching cold front. Strong NE winds will follow the front as it moves into the far NW Caribbean late Fri. The front will stall from E Cuba to Belize by late Sat then dissipate through early next week. High pressure building behind the front N of the area will support strong trades across the Caribbean from Fri night through early next week...diminishing by mid week.
3a. The pressure gradient generated by the interaction of the surface high that prevails across the Atlantic and lower pressures across the northern portion of South America is supporting moderate to fresh trades across the Caribbean waters. Low-level moisture transported by the trades is generating isolated low-topped showers that will continue moving quickly across the basin. Winds will diminish later tonight through Friday night as the pressure gradient weakens. A cold front is expected to move into the northwest Caribbean by late Friday. The front will then stall from the Windward Passage to the Gulf of Honduras by Saturday night.
