The Tropical Weather Outlook
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:1. There are no tropical cyclones in the Atlantic at this time. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th.
2. Gulf of Mexico - High pressure over the western Atlantic will maintain E to SE return flow over the Gulf through Wed. A weak cold front will move off the Texas coast tonight and across the northern Gulf through Fri preceded by scattered showers and thunderstorms. High pressure will building in behind the front over the area through Fri night...then move eastward Sat through Sun night. SE return flow will increase over some portions of the western Gulf on Sun.
3. Caribbean Sea - High pressure building N of the central Caribbean will bring an increase in winds across most of the Caribbean waters. N swell will propagate into the tropical N Atlantic zones Thu night into Fri.
3a. West-southwesterly flow aloft prevails over the Caribbean basin this evening with mostly dry and stable conditions noted on water vapor imagery. This stability filters to the surface with most of the basin under relatively clear skies and fair conditions. One exception is an area of enhanced cloudiness and possible isolated showers occurring across the south-central waters from 12N-16N between 67W-72W. With the Special Features low pressure area located N-NE of Puerto Rico...the pressure gradient remains fairly weak and results in mostly gentle to moderate trades. This overall wind pattern is expected to persist through Thursday with the exception of occasional fresh E-SE winds across the Gulf of Honduras. Otherwise...little change is expected through the remainder of the week.
