The Tropical Weather Outlook
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
1. There are no tropical cyclones in the Atlantic at this time. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th.
2. Gulf of Mexico - High pressure over the western Atlantic will maintain E to SE return flow over the Gulf through Thu. The pressure gradient will tighten Tue between the high and deepening low pressure over the S plains resulting in increasing SE winds over much of the western and central Gulf through Thu. A cold front will reach the Texas coast Wed night and move over the NW Gulf early on Thu. The front will over across the northern Gulf through Fri while weakening. A thermal trough will bring fresh to strong winds to the E Bay of Campeche, Mexico each night this week.
3. Caribbean Sea - Low pressure centered N of the Caribbean near 27N67W will maintain a light wind regime across the Caribbean through Tue. High pressure will build N of the central Caribbean Tue night bringing an increase to the trades across most of the Caribbean. N swell is expected to propagate into the N tropical Atlantic Wed through Thu night.
3a. West-southwesterly flow aloft prevails over the Caribbean basin this morning with mostly dry and stable conditions noted on water vapor imagery. This stability filters to the surface with most of the basin under relatively clear skies and fair conditions. With the Special Features low pressure area located N of Hispaniola and Puerto Rico...the pressure gradient remains fairly weak and results in gentle to moderate trades. This overall wind pattern is expected to persist through Thursday with the exception of occasional fresh E-SE winds across the Gulf of Honduras. Otherwise...little change is expected through the remainder of the week.
