For today, Friday, mostly cloudy with intermittent sunshine. Scattered showers and thunderstorms (TSTM) will continue.Winds will be NW to N, ranging in strength from 5 to 15 mph, with occasional higher gusts.
Waves will be 1 to 4 feet or higher depending on location.The surface trough mentioned in yesterday’s forecast has almost passed over us. Early this morning, it extended from central Cuba to south of the Bay Islands.( See Fig 1) It will continue to drift SE through Saturday. It will reach from eastern Cuba to western Panama by early Sunday.
It will linger there, through early next week. Else where in the tropicsThe two areas of disturbed weather in the Atlantic Ocean which were associated with the tropical waves there; have become one large, complex system. It is designated 97L. There now is a 40% chance that it will become a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours. This system poses no immediate threat to us. (See Fig 2) All interests in the Bay Islands should continue to monitor these systems closely. Remember that historically, some of the strongest, most damaging hurricanes in the Bay Islands and on the North Coast of Honduras have occurred during the months of October and November.The air temperatures will be in the mid to high 80s (F) or 27 - 29 (C).
