For Friday Oct. 22, 2010
Again, today, our skies will be partly cloudy, with a possibility of scattered rain
showers. Winds will be northerly at 10 to 15 mph. Waves will be 1 to 4 feet in
height. Winds and seas may intensify later today.
At 3am, this morning, the center of Tropical Storm Richard was located about
400 miles due east of us.
The projected track will take it slightly to the north and east of us on
Sunday and Monday, possibly at hurricane strength. Currently, it is nearly
stationary. Maximum sustained winds are 40 mph. The minimum pressure was
1005 millibars. It will resume its forward motion later today. It is important to
note, that the NHC has revised the official track slightly southward. This
increases the chances of a direct hit, particularly for Guanaja. On the plus side,
because of Richard’s close proximity to land, it cannot intensify in strength into
a hurricane, until it is well north of the islands.
All interests in the Bay Islands and on the North Coast of Honduras
should be continuously monitoring this storm system and be preparing
for tropical storm force conditions, with winds of 38 to 73mph
or higher.
The air temperatures will be in the high 70s (F) to the low 80s or 24 to 25 (C).
At depth, ocean water temperatures are about 82F to 85F or 27C to 29C. Surface
At depth, ocean water temperatures are about 82F to 85F or 27C to 29C. Surface
temperatures are lower and vary greatly due to the heavy rainfall which occurred recently.
