Today, it will be sunny with a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Winds will continue to be strong and from the N to NE: ranging in strength from 5 to 20 mph or higher. Waves will be 1 to 4 feet in height or higher. The surface low that formed yesterday, off Nicaragua, has been designated 98L. It is centered about 400 miles ESE of us and drifted west during the night. The NHC is giving this system a 60% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours. It currently has maximum winds of 25 mph. The NHC is predicting that this system will reach us by Tuesday, possibly at tropical storm strength (35-60mph winds). It is moving in tandem with a surface trough which extends from SE Cuba to near Panama. In the 0600 GMT computer model run, there was little or no consensus among the models as to 98L’s path, except that it would continue traveling W to NW in direction. It is my opinion, that unless the center of 98L gets above 15N latitude, in thenext 24 hours, it will follow the same general path as Matthew and make landfall in Nicaragua. Another tropical wave will reach this area by Thursday. All interests in the Bay Islands should monitor the progress of this system for further development.
I will post again by no later than 4pm today.
Elsewhere in the tropicsHurricane Otto remains in the Atlantic. It does not pose a threat to us. Other tropical cyclone formation is not expected in the next 24 hours. The air temperatures will be in the high 70s (F) to the low 80s or 24 to 25 (C).

At depth, ocean water temperatures are about 85F to 87F or 29C to 30C. Surface
temperatures are lower and vary greatly due to the heavy rainfall which occurred last week.
