Today, it will be mostly cloudy with a chance of rain and thunderstorms. Winds will continue to be strong, from the NW to W: ranging in strength from 10 to 20 mph. Waves will be 1 to 4 feet in height.
Both wind and seas can be higher locally, particularly on the north side. Paula will dominate our weather at least through Saturday; first as hurricane, than as a tropical storm. Early this morning it was centered about 125 miles NNE of us. It has maximum winds of 75 mph.
The central pressure is 992 millibars. It is moving NW at 10 mph. Paula is expected to strengthen today and continue NW toward Cozumel. By Thursday, it is predicted to start turning east towards Cuba and begin to diminish in strength. On Friday and Saturday, it will turn to the south back towards us. What track it will follow, is unclear at this point. Confidence in the forecast from Saturday forward is low. It most likely will remain in the NW Caribbean Sea through the weekend and early part of next week.Another tropical wave will reach this area by Wednesday.All interests in the Bay Islands should monitor the progress of this system for further development.
