For Friday, Sept 17, 2010
Because of a weak, ill-defined pressure pattern over the Caribbean Sea, expect these conditions to continue through this week-end.
TS Karl is now a major hurricane (See Figs 1 & 2) with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph. It will make landfall later this morning, just north of Veracruz, Mexico. Its influence on our weather is declining.
Elsewhere in the tropics:
Hurricanes Igor and Julia remain in the open waters of the Eastern Tropical Atlantic Ocean. Neither system poses a threat to the Bay Islands.
The ECMWF computer model develops a new tropical depression a few hundred miles off the coast of Africa 2 - 4 days from now. The GFS model is suggesting the eastern Caribbean could see a tropical depression 6 - 7 days from now.
The air temperatures will be in the mid to high 80s (F) or 27 - 29 (C).
Ocean water temperatures are about 85F to 87F or 29C to 30C.
