The Tropical Weather Outlook
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:1. Tropical cyclone formation is not expected for the next 48 hours.
2. Gulf of Mexico - Weak low pressure and surface trough over the NW Gulf will merge with a cold front moving across the NW Gulf later today. The front will extend from central Florida to 25N95W to 18N94W Thu night...then become stationary from west Cuba 25N91W to 18N94W Fri...before dissipating Fri night. Near gale northerly winds are possible offshore of Veracruz, Mexico Wed night and Thu. Strong high pressure building into southern Mexico Sat may induce gale force winds in the SW Gulf late Sat and Sat night.
3. Caribbean Sea - High pressure across the SE U.S. will support fresh to strong NE winds N of 18N in the N central Caribbean and lee of Cuba through today before the high shifts SE and weakens. Gentle to moderate trades are expected elsewhere through Sat. Moderate to large NW to N swell will move across the regional Atlantic waters and passages today through late Thu. A surface trough will cross the Windward Islands today before dissipating.
3a. A broad upper level trough is noted over the NE Caribbean with axis extending from over 20N65W SW to a base over 13N67W. Water vapor imagery indicates dry air aloft in association with the troughing and areas to the west where upper level ridging prevails. However to the east of the troughing...upper level flow becomes southwesterly with moisture and cloudiness increasing across the eastern Caribbean. The troughing is supporting a surface trough analyzed from 10N62W across many of the Lesser Antilles to 18N60W. Scattered showers and widely scattered tstms are occurring from 10N-21N between 56W-62W. The trough is expected to drift westward within gentle to moderate trade wind flow.
