The Tropical Weather Outlook
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
1. There are no tropical cyclones in the Atlantic at this time. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th.
2. Gulf of Mexico - A cold front over the NW Gulf will move SE across the area today...becoming stationary over the southern waters Fri through Sat. Minimal gale force winds will be possible near the coast of Veracruz, Mexico this afternoon. Low pressure may develop along the frontal remnants this weekend bringing increasing winds and seas to the W central and SW Gulf where gale force winds will be possible. The remnants will finally push S of the basin by Sun night...while another front clips the E Gulf.
3. Caribbean Sea - Fresh to strong winds will persist in the S central Caribbean through the forecast period...pulsing to near gale force at night. Moderate to fresh trades will prevail elsewhere. A cold front will move S of the Yucatan Channel Sun afternoon...moving across the NW Caribbean through the early part of next week.
3a. The southern tip of a cold front is over the NE Caribbean near 16N61W. A surface trough continues to 14N67W to 14N73W. Scattered showers are within 60 nm of the front and trough. Elsewhere, scattered showers are inland over NW Venezuela, N Colombia, Panama, and Costa Rica. The remainder of the Caribbean Sea has mostly fair weather. 10-25 kt tradewinds are over the Caribbean with strongest winds along the coast of N Colombia. In the upper levels, a ridge is over the W Caribbean with axis along 82W. A trough is over the E Caribbean with axis along 66W. Very strong subsidence is over the entire Caribbean. Expect over the next 24 hours for the SW Caribbean, Panama, and Costa Rica to have more scattered showers.
