The Tropical Weather Outlook
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
1. There are no tropical cyclones in the Atlantic at this time. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th.
2. Gulf of Mexico - A cold front extends from Naples, FL to 25N88W to 24N94W and S to 21N95W to inland Veracruz, Mexico. The very tight pressure gradient between the front and strong high pressure to its N building eastward across the area is resulting in strong N to NE winds with frequent gusts to gale force winds over much of the NW and N central Gulf portions with mainly sustained NW to N winds in W central and SW Gulf portions. The cold front will push S to along a position from the near Florida Keys to 24N85W ...and stall to 22N92W S to near 18.5N92W by early tonight. Gale force winds will be confined to the SW Gulf tonight. These winds are forecast to slowly diminish on Sat and Sat night along with the seas slow to subside as the front sags S as a weakening stationary front...and the strong high pressure slides E while weakening. A weak cold front is forecast to approach the northern Gulf Tue.
3. Caribbean Sea - High pressure N of the area will shift eastward through the weekend as an easterly wave along 69W moves westward at 10 to 15 kt...and reaches the central caribbean this evening through Sat night. The pressure gradient between the high pressure N of the area and the wave will support fresh to strong NE to E winds over much of the central and eastern Caribbean through Mon night. Winds may be fresh to locally strong near the coast of Colombia and NW Venezuela. A cold front will stall across the Yucatan Channel late Fri and Sat...with strong high pressure behind it to support fresh to strong NE winds and building seas NW Caribbean. Trades will increase further over the central Caribbean this weekend as high pressure behind the front builds eastward across the western Atlantic.
3a. Upper level cyclonic wind flow, with a trough, covers the area that is from 10N to 20N between 66W and 74W. A surface trough is along 68W/69W from 10N in Venezuela to 18N off the SE coast of Hispaniola. Convective precipitation: widely scattered to scattered moderate and isolated strong from 11N to 17N between 67W and 71W. isolated moderate elsewhere from 10N to 18N between 60W and 73W. Upper level anticyclonic wind flow covers the Caribbean Sea and parts of Central America from 18N southward between 73W and 89W. A surface ridge extends from an Atlantic Ocean 1020 mb high pressure center, that is near 25N58W, across the Bahamas to Cuba.
