The Tropical Weather Outlook
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:1. Gulf of Mexico - A dissipating stationary front extends from north Florida to near 26N88W. A frontal trough continues from this point to near Brownsville, TX. A ridge will dominate the Gulf region during the remainder of the forecast period. Winds and seas are expected to increase over the eastern Gulf Wed through Fri as Hurricane Matthew moves northward across the central Bahamas and off the east coast of Florida. A new cold front may push into the NW Gulf by the end of the week. 2. Caribbean Sea - Hurricane Matthew near 15.2N 74.9W 943 mb at 5 am EDT moving N at 5 kt. Maximum sustained winds 115 kt with gusts to 140 kt. The center of Matthew will move to 16.2N 74.9W Mon afternoon...to 17.9N 74.7W Mon night...to 19.7N 74.6W Tue afternoon...then 21.4N 74.8W Tue night. Matthew will continue N across the central Bahamas as a hurricane through mid week. Much more tranquil conditions will prevail across the Caribbean Sea by the end of the week as Matthew exits the area. All interests in the Bay Islands and on the North Coast of Honduras should monitor this system closely as it tracks north and east of us. Currently this system does not pose a threat to the Bay Islands and north coast of Honduras.
3. ...Tropical Waves...
3a. A tropical wave is in the central Atlantic extending from 09N to 17N with an associated 1010 mb low centered near 11N42W. Both the wave axis and the low center has been moving W at 10 kt over the past 24 hours. Upper level diffluence and abundant low level moisture in the wave environment as seen in CIRA LPW support scattered showers within 120 nm either side of its axis.
