The Tropical Weather Outlook
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:1. There are no tropical cyclones in the Atlantic at this time. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th.
2. Gulf of Mexico - High pressure will prevail over the northern Gulf through Sun. A surface trough will develop over the Yucatan each evening and move westward overnight into the SW Gulf before dissipating.
3. Caribbean Sea - Fresh winds will pulse to strong SW of Cuba and through Windward Passage each night through Fri. Fresh winds off the coast of Colombia will pulse to strong each night through Sun. Gentle to moderate trade winds will prevail elsewhere through early Sat then freshen Sun as high pressure builds S Across the SW N Atlantic.
3a. High pressure north of the region supports moderate to fresh easterly trades over the central and western Caribbean basin this morning. The only exceptions are locally strong winds along the northwestern coast of Colombia, the Lee of Cuba, and the Windward Passage. These strong winds will decrease during the day today, and will then pulse back to strong tonight. A surface trough extends from western Atlantic low pressure and across Puerto Rico. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are across Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The low and trough are helping to disrupt the trade wind flow over the eastern Caribbean with gentle to light winds over this portion of the basin.
