The Tropical Weather Outlook
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
1. There are no tropical cyclones in the Atlantic at this time. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th.
2. Gulf of Mexico - High pressure ridge E to W over the northern Gulf will be reinforced by stronger high pressure building SW from the mid- Atlantic region tonight through the remainder of the period. Fresh to strong easterly winds will persist through the Straits of Florida. A surface trough will develop over the Yucatan each evening...then move westward into the eastern portion of the Bay of Campeche, Mexico.
3. Caribbean Sea - High pressure ridge extending SW across the SW N Atlantic will allow for fresh NE winds to pulse to strong in the lee of of Cuba each night through Fri as well as through the Windward Passage. Fresh winds off the coast of Colombia will pulse to strong each night through Sat. Gentle to moderate trade winds will prevail elsewhere through early Sat. Stronger high pressure will build S into the region over the weekend and freshen tradewinds across the entire central Caribbean.
3a. High pressure north of the region supports moderate to fresh easterly trades over the majority of the Caribbean basin this morning. The only exceptions are locally strong winds along the northwestern coast of Colombia, the Lee of Cuba, and the Windward Passage. A surface trough extends from the Atlantic and across Puerto Rico. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are within 240 nm of either side of the trough axis. This trough is helping to disrupt the trade wind flow over the northeastern Caribbean. The strong winds will decrease during the day today, and will then pulse back to strong tonight. Little change is expected elsewhere over the next 24 hours.
