The Tropical Weather Outlook
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
1. Gulf of Mexico - High pressure extending from the Atlantic westward across the northern Gulf waters will weaken slightly Fri through Sat. A thermal trough will move NW off the Yucatan Peninsula each evening and dissipate over the SW Gulf waters by late each morning accompanied by fresh to locally strong winds.
2. Caribbean Sea - The tight pressure gradient between an Atlantic ridge and low pressure over S America will maintain fresh to strong trades across the central Caribbean...except increasing to near gale force along the NW coast of Colombia mainly during the overnight hours through early Thu. A tropical wave with axis along 78W will move across the remainder of the Caribbean through Tue night. Scattered showers and tstms with gusty winds will precede the wave N of 15N.
3. Tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 5 days.
4. Tropical Waves...
4a. Tropical wave in the central Tropical Atlantic extends along 46W/47W from 6N-18N moving west 15 to 20 kt over the past 24 hours. Wave coincides with a well-defined 700 mb trough depicted in the global models and precedes the leading edge of a surge of moisture as seen on the SSMI Total precipitable Water imagery. No associated deep convection is noted.
4b. Tropical wave in the central Caribbean extends along 77W/78W from the south coast of Cube to over Panama moving west near 25 kt over the past 24 hours. Wave is trailing a 700 mb trough depicted in the global models and is embedded within a surge of moisture as seen on the SSMI Total precipitable Water imagery. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are from 14N-20N between 78W-84W.
4c. Tropical wave that was over Central America is no longer in the Caribbean basin.
