The Tropical Weather Outlook
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
1. Gulf of Mexico - High pressure extending from the W Atlantic to across the northern Gulf will change little through Tue...then weaken some on Wed. A thermal trough will move NW off the Yucatan Peninsula each evening and dissipate over the SW Gulf waters by late each morning accompanied by fresh NE to E winds...except becoming strong beginning on Mon evening.
2. Caribbean Sea - The tight pressure gradient between an Atlantic ridge and low pressure over S America will maintain fresh to strong trades across the central Caribbean...except increasing to near gale force along the NW coast of Colombia mainly during the overnight hours. A tropical wave with axis along 80W will move across the rest of the W Caribbean through Mon night. A second tropical wave with axis along 67W will move W across the rest of the E Caribbean overnight tonight...then the central Caribbean Mon and Mon night and the W Caribbean Tue into early Wed. The wave will be accompanied by scattered showers and tstms with gusty winds as it moves through the central Caribbean.
3. Tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 5 days.
4. Tropical Waves...
4a. Tropical wave in the central Tropical Atlantic extends along 37W/38W from 6N-16N moving west 15 to 20 kt over the past 24 hours. Wave coincides with a 700 mb trough depicted in the global models and is along the leading edge of a surge of moisture as seen on the SSMI Total Precipitable water imagery. No associated deep convection is noted.
4b. Tropical wave in the E Caribbean extends along 66W/67W from 20N across Puerto Rico to inland over Venezuela moving west- northwest 20 to 25 kt over the past 24 hours. Wave is trailing a 700 mb trough depicted in the global models and is embedded within a surge of moisture as seen on the SSMI Total Precipitable water imagery. Activity in the vicinity of this wave is associated with an upper low over the central Caribbean.
4c. Tropical wave in the W Caribbean extends along 80W from 10N- 20N moving west 15 to 20 kt over the past 24 hours. Wave is shallow and coincided with a 850 mb trough depicted in the global models and is embedded within a moderate surge of moisture as seen on the SSMI Total Precipitable water imagery. No associated deep convection is noted.
