The Tropical Weather Outlook
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:1. Gulf of Mexico - A recurring surface trough will support fresh NE to E winds along the NW coast of the Yucatan Peninsula and across the E Bay of Campeche each night. Weak ridging across the northern Gulf will maintain gentle to moderate winds across the remainder of the Gulf through Wed night.
2. Caribbean Sea - A tropical wave will pass W through the NW Caribbean tonight. A second tropical wave along 67W will race W through the central Caribbean tonight reaching the W Caribbean on Sun and mon. Strong trades across the S central Caribbean will gradually diminish through Wed. A tropical low over the E Atlc will reach near 12N55W on Tue and continue W across the Lesser Antilles on Wed. This system could develop into a tropical cyclone in 3 to 5 days.
3. Fiona is forecast to become a tropical depression later today, and could degenerate into a remnant low on Monday.
4. Tropical Waves...
4a. A broad area of low pressure, associated with a tropical wave, is located about 750 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. This system continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms, and any development should be slow to occur due to its large size and proximity to dry air. Environmental conditions are forecast to be more conducive for development beyond a couple of days, and a tropical depression could form by the middle of next week while the system moves westward at 15 to 20 mph across the tropical Atlantic Ocean and into the eastern Caribbean Sea.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...50 percent
4b. A tropical wave located inland over western Africa is producing a large area of cloudiness and thunderstorms. This wave is expected to move offshore tonight and environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development while it moves generally west-northwestward over the eastern tropical Atlantic Ocean during the next several days.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...50 percent
