The Tropical Weather Outlook
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:1. Gulf of Mexico - An E to W ridge will meander from N Florida to NE Texas the next several days. A weak high will develop over the NE Gulf late this week. A coastal trough will develop on Mon and Tue afternoons across the W Gulf waters. A thermal trough each night will support fresh and occasionally strong winds over the E Bay of Campeche, Mexico.
2. Caribbean Sea - A tropical wave will pass W through the E Caribbean today...the central Caribbean tonight...and the W Caribbean Tue and Wed. Another tropical wave will reach along 55W Tue night and move W through the Windwards on Wed. Fresh to strong trades will continue across the central Caribbean through Sat...and may increase to near gale force along the NW coast of Colombia late each night.
3. A tropical wave located a few hundred miles south-southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Some gradual development of this system is possible during the next few days before conditions become less favorable by the late in the week. This system is forecast to move westward to west-northwestward at about 15 mph over the eastern Atlantic through mid-week.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent
4. Tropical Waves...
4a. A tropical wave is in the E Atlantic with axis extending 16N21W to a 1009 mb surface low near 10N20W to 07N20W, moving west at 10-15 kt within the last 18 hours. The wave is in a very moist environment with favorable deep-layer wind shear that along with diffluent flow in the upper levels support scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms from 07N-13N between 21W-29W.
4b. A tropical wave is in the central Atlantic with axis 21N41W to 09N41W, moving west at 20-25 kt within the last 24 hours. TPW imagery shows dry air intrusion within this wave which is hinderingconvection at this time.
4c. A tropical wave is entering the E Caribbean with axis extending from 17N62W to 10N62W, moving west at 15 kt within the last 24 hours. The presence of Saharan dust and dry air coupled with unfavorable deep-layer wind shear in the E Caribbean is limiting the convection associated with this wave to isolated showers from 12N-15N between 62W-67W.
